The invention of the Atomic Bomb

At the Potsdam conference, President Truman was keen to assert his dominance so that he could control the meeting. He postponed the entire conference to give American Scientists enough time to test the worlds first atomic bomb. After the successful test, Churchill seemed to notice a change in his attitude. Truman thought that he possessed the ultimate weapon. Churchill said that 'he generally bossed the whole meeting.' Truman thought it was the 'master card' as it had the power to destroy cities without putting American lives at risk. Stalin refused to be pushed around and he was said to 'show no real interest.' However Stalin was well aware of the significance of the atomic bomb and so he told Soviet Scientists to make their own to protect the interests of the USSR and create a 'buffer zone' around them.
